Biography

Mo is Research Fellow in Ethics, Sustainability& Fair Trade in Fashion & Textiles in the School of Fashion & Textiles at CSM where she is also an Associate Lecturer (in fashion print design, and in sustainability). An active consultant both within the fashion industry and in the sustainable development sector, Mo is a specialist in design, markets & supply chain analysis for textile and fashion product; she is conversant in ethical, fair trade & environmental sourcing issues. Widely experienced in market access development, sourcing and strategic management of creative design, she brings expertise gained in in Asia, Europe, USA & Latin America to her research, linking of socio-economic development with textiles and fashion product through the articulation of local and global vision in a variety of projects in Asia, Europe, USA & Latin America

Socio-economic Textile Development for Sustainable Fashion Products
Research Statement

Mo is closely involved with the debate around sustainability in fashion and its differing approaches. Her research is informed by her long career as a designer in industry, and since 1998, a paralell consultancy in sustainable issues related to textiles. She has advised on issues as diverse as supply chain ethics, fair trade in textiles and cotton agriculture, market analysis and market access, and jeanswear industry trends, and fashion print. in an ongoing research project (since 2005) Mo has been working in collaboration with the Commonwealth Secretariat (Social Transformations Programme, Gender Section) and Rural Support Programmes Network in Pakistan on the initiation and development of Enterprise Facilitation Unit (EFU) initiating design and product development support from CSM textile and fashion design student interns, and from visiting international designers. The aim of the programme is to support market access for social development of women textile producers in rural Pakistan within the structure of the RSPN. Past projects include research projects for SEWA (Self Empoyed Womens Association) in Gujarat, India; Traidcraft Market Access Centre and Labour Behind the Label. She has acted as an advisor to Oxfam UK; PAN UK & Fashioning an Ethical industry among others.
