Ceri Isaac is a research fellow at The London College of Fashion. She is a textile designer, specializing in the creative application of CAD for surface design and inkjet printing. Working in New York for 8 years for both the home furnishing and fashion print industries, she was also involved with the pioneer installations and testing of some of the first large format inkjet fabric printers. She established her own digital print facility, ION Design in Brooklyn, to explore the emerging market in bespoke prints for new clients becoming aware of its potential. Ceri studied both woven and printed fabric techniques for a BFA from the Rhode Island School of Design, USA.
Ceri Isaac’s research involves an exploration of the new image styles for surface design, made possible through the use of digital media and inkjet printing. The basis for much of her work involves photographing objects or textures that are reminiscent of traditional motifs, in a manner that is not too obviously computer generated yet remains modern in impact. Colour and its re- working away from the starkly photographic towards a more abstract and decorative sensibility plays an important role in these pieces.
Inspired by the work of Edward Muybridge and Stephen Pippin she has also experimented with the use of motion stills, taken from video footage and laid out into sequences that capture a pattern of movement for the human figure. Viewed from a distance these sequences appear as abstract or geometric shapes.
